Planning Your Crafting Around the One-Way Salvage Rule
The core rule of this mod is simple: you can get the block back, but never the vehicle. Understanding that trade-off helps you avoid wasting resources in the first place.
The Rule in Plain Terms
- Combining a block with a minecart or boat is reversible only in one direction.
- Breaking down returns the block (hopper, chest, TNT, furnace).
- The minecart or boat is always consumed.
How to Craft Smarter
1. Before bulk-crafting minecart variants, decide whether you actually need the cart form.
2. If you are unsure, craft plain minecarts and keep
blocks separate until you commit.
3. When you do over-craft, immediately break the extras down so the
blocks return to your stockpile.
4. Keep recovered
blocks in a dedicated chest so they are easy to reuse.
Resource Impact
- Iron used on the minecart is the main loss when salvaging.
- Wood and other block materials are recovered, which is the main saving.
- For chest boats, the boat materials are lost but the chest is recovered.
Good Habits
- Label a chest for "salvage" carts and boats awaiting breakdown.
- Break down extras right after a build session instead of letting them pile up.
- Remember the rule applies to hopper, chest, TNT and furnace minecarts as well as chest boats, so the same habit covers every variant.
