Navigating Underground Cave Systems by Biome Type
Matching Caves to Surface Terrain
Horizon Tapestry generates specialized cave types that correspond to the biome above them. Mushroom Caves appear beneath ocean and mushroom-adjacent areas with fungal growth. Frozen Caverns spawn under cold regions with ice spikes and blue ice formations. Sand Caves generate under deserts with sandstone spikes, while Red Sand Caves appear below red desert biomes.
Preparation and Strategy
Before descending, identify your surface biome. This tells you what cave type to expect underground. Bring appropriate tools: pickaxes for ice and sandstone, shovels for sand, and lighting for dark fungal areas. Frozen Caverns can be treacherous due to ice; consider bringing blocks for traction.
Resource Gathering
Each cave type offers unique resources. Mushroom Caves provide fungal blocks and mushroom variants. Frozen Caverns contain blue ice ore formations. Sand and Red Sand Caves yield sandstone variants and desert-specific drops. Gravel Caves in mountainous regions feature cobble pillars and gravel—useful for construction projects.
