Horizon Tapestry Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I find red sand biomes?
Red sand biomes generate near Badlands terrain as natural extensions of that region. Look for the distinctive red sand beaches and warm ocean variants along coastlines adjacent to Badlands, or explore inland red desert areas that connect to existing Badlands.
What's the best way to explore cave systems in this mod?
Cave biomes match the surface terrain above them, so check what biome you're in before descending—desert surfaces lead to Sand Caves, snowy areas to Frozen Caverns, and so on. Bring appropriate tools and blocks for each cave type, as they feature different hazards like ice spikes in Frozen Caverns or sandstone formations in Sand Caves.
Can I find villages in every biome?
No, this mod only adds specialized villages in swamp regions: regular Swamp Villages in standard swamps and Mangrove Swamp Villages in muddy wetlands and frozen swamps. Other biomes do not have new village variants.
Do transitional biomes spawn naturally or do I need to configure them?
Transitional biomes like Cold Forest, Warm Plains, and Windswept Birch Forest generate automatically as part of world generation to smooth climate gaps between hot, cold, and temperate zones. No configuration is needed for them to appear.
What should I bring when exploring Frozen Caverns?
Bring pickaxes suitable for ice and stone, as Frozen Caverns feature ice spikes, blue ice ores, and large frozen pillars that require proper tools to harvest. Consider bringing torches or light sources, as the blue ice can make navigation visually confusing.
Are there mushroom biomes besides Mushroom Grove?
Yes, there's also Eroded Mushroom Island, which is a variant with towering cliffs and dense mushroom growth. Both variants offer mushroom-rich terrain, with Eroded Mushroom Island featuring more dramatic terrain.
Do Red Sand Caves have different mobs than regular caves?
Red Sand Caves generate under red deserts and feature husks and cactuses as part of their terrain, matching the surface environment above them. They have warm aquifer life, making them distinct from standard cave biomes.
Can I find cherry trees outside of Cherry Groves?
Cherry trees are specifically featured in Snowy Cherry Groves, which are snowy slopes dotted with blooming cherry trees. They don't naturally generate in other biomes added by this mod.
What's the difference between Dark Grove and other forest biomes?
Dark Grove is unique because it mixes dark oak trees along cold mountain slopes, creating a darker, more forested aesthetic compared to other cold biomes like Cold Forest or Snowy Windswept Hills. It generates in specific mountainous cold regions.
Do ocean biomes have any new features besides red sand beaches?
Yes, the mod adds warm water ocean variants near Badlands and red sand beaches along coastlines, plus Mushroom Caves beneath oceans near mushroom territory with fungal growth. Coral reefs also appear along red sand beaches.
