Horizon Relief Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know if the data pack is actually working?
Load into a world with Big Globe enabled and fly around the landscape—you should see open terrain without massive dark Obelisk structures blocking the horizon. If you still see towering monuments generating, the data pack may not be loaded in your world folder or activated in your datapacks folder.
Do I need to start a new world for this to work?
Yes, the data pack prevents Obelisks from generating in new chunks, so you should create a fresh world after installing it. Existing chunks in older worlds will already have Obelisks baked in and cannot be removed retroactively.
Will this data pack work with other Big Globe add-ons?
Yes, Horizon Relief is designed to work alongside other Big Globe features and customizations without conflicts. It only removes Obelisk generation while leaving all other terrain, structures, and biomes intact.
Does this actually improve my FPS?
It reduces CPU strain during chunk generation since the game no longer builds massive Obelisk structures, which means faster world loading and smoother frame rates when exploring new terrain. The performance gain depends on your system, but the difference is most noticeable during initial chunk generation.
Can I re-enable Obelisks if I change my mind?
Yes—simply remove the data pack from your world's datapacks folder and reload. New chunks will generate with Obelisks again, though previously generated chunks without them will stay that way.
Where do I put the data pack file in my world?
Extract the data pack into your world folder's `datapacks` directory, then use `/reload` in-game or restart to activate it. You can verify it's loaded by checking the datapacks list in your world settings.
Does this work with Fabric, Forge, or both?
Data packs work independently of the mod loader, so Horizon Relief functions with any setup that runs Big Globe, whether you use Fabric, Forge, or another loader.
Will Obelisks still spawn if I have this installed but forget to activate it?
Yes—the data pack only works when it's active in your world's datapacks folder. If it's not loaded, Big Globe will generate Obelisks normally.
Can I use this on a multiplayer server?
Yes, add the data pack to the server's world folder datapacks directory and restart the server. All players will see the same Obelisk-free landscape.
What if I want to remove Obelisks from an existing world?
Unfortunately, data packs only affect newly generated chunks, so Obelisks already in your world cannot be removed. You'll need to start a fresh world with the data pack installed to avoid them entirely.
