Set up distant terrain viewing for your multiplayer server

Install and configure the mod

Install Horizon Reach Render Mod on both your server and client. You'll also need Voxy installed on your client to render the distant terrain geometry that the server sends.

Enable terrain synchronization

Once connected to your server, the mod will begin sending distant terrain data automatically. Check that it's working by running /vss stats in the server console—this shows current transmission rates and active LOD cache details.

Adjust viewing distance

By default, the server sends terrain data out to a set radius. To change how far players can see, use /vss distance set <chunks> in the server console, replacing <chunks> with your desired radius. A larger value means more terrain is sent but uses more bandwidth and memory.

Monitor bandwidth

If your server has limited internet speed, use /vss bandwidth set_kbps <value> to cap the outgoing network speed in kilobits per second. Check your current limit anytime with /vss bandwidth get.
