How to Avoid Accidentally Un-tilling Your Farmland

Why it happens

Because the mod lets you right-click tilled soil to turn it back into dirt, it's easy to accidentally un-till farmland while you're trying to plant seeds or do something else nearby. The mod includes a safeguard for exactly this situation.

The off-hand rule

By default, onlyUntillWithOtherHandEmpty is set to true. That means un-tilling only triggers when your other hand is empty. If you're holding seeds, a torch, or any other item in your off-hand, right-clicking farmland will not un-till it, so you can plant seeds safely while your hoe stays in your main hand.

If you still un-till by mistake

  • Keep your off-hand occupied with the item you're working with (seeds, bonemeal, etc.) so the un-till action is blocked.
  • If you want un-tilling to always work regardless of your off-hand, set onlyUntillWithOtherHandEmpty to false in the config, but be aware this removes the safety net.
  • To restore accidentally un-tilled soil, just till the dirt block again with your hoe.

Related tip

Un-tilling is also useful intentionally: right-click farmland to convert it back to dirt when reshaping a farm or removing a field.
