Making the Recipe Book Hidden by Default on Every Launch

Setting the Default State

The mod includes a config option called shouldHideRecipeBook. This controls whether the recipe book starts hidden the moment you load into a world, before you press any keys.

1. Locate the mod's config file in your game's config folder.

2. Open it with a plain text editor.

3. Find the shouldHideRecipeBook entry and set it to the value that hides the book on first launch.

4. Save the file and restart Minecraft so the change is read.

Why This Matters

If you prefer the pre-1.12 experience where recipes had to be discovered manually, leaving the book visible by default is annoying — you have to hide it again every session. Setting shouldHideRecipeBook means the book stays out of the way automatically, and you only bring it back when you deliberately want it. Pair this with keeping allowRecipeBookToggleHotkey enabled so you still have a way to reveal the book temporarily when you actually need it. If you later change your mind, simply flip the same option back and restart. Note that this setting only affects the starting state; it does not lock the book permanently, so the hotkey still works either way.
