Held Item Tooltips Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the Held Item Tooltips config?
Open the mod list from the pause menu, select Held Item Tooltips, and click the Config button. Most versions also let you reach the same settings screen from the main menu's Mods section.
Why are my tooltips not showing up above the hotbar?
Check that the mod is enabled in your mod loader and that the tooltip display toggle in the config hasn't been turned off. If you're in a GUI or holding nothing, tooltips naturally won't appear.
How do I change which lines appear on the tooltip?
In the config, each line type (enchantments, potion effects, durability, shulker contents, etc.) has its own enable toggle. Turn off the ones you don't want and reorder the rest to control what shows first.
Can I move the tooltip to a different position on screen?
Yes, the config lets you adjust the tooltip's vertical offset so it sits higher or lower above the hotbar. Some versions also expose horizontal alignment options.
How do I make shulker box contents show when I hold one?
Enable the shulker box contents line in the config. Once on, holding a shulker box will list its stored items above your hotbar instead of just showing the box name.
Why does my tooltip overlap with other HUD mods?
Other HUD elements are drawing in the same screen space. Move the tooltip offset in the config, or reposition the conflicting HUD mod so the two don't share the same area.
Does Held Item Tooltips work with modded items and enchantments?
It reads standard item data, so most modded enchantments, potion effects, and container items display correctly. A few mods with custom tooltip logic may not render their extra info.
Can I change the font color of the tooltip text?
Yes, each line type has its own color setting in the config. You can set colors per line so enchantments, durability, and other info are visually distinct.
How do I show potion effects and rocket durations on held items?
Enable the potion effects and rocket duration lines in the config. Potions will then list their effects, and firework rockets will show their flight duration above the hotbar.
Does this mod hurt performance or work on servers?
It's a client-side rendering mod, so it doesn't affect server performance and works on any server you join. The rendering cost is minimal, though very long tooltips with many lines can add slight overhead.
