How to Use the Overlay to Inspect Command Blocks, Written Books, and Paintings
Special Item Info
Beyond weapons and containers, the mod reports details for Command Blocks, Written Books, Paintings, and other data-carrying items while they are held. This is useful for map makers and builders who need to confirm an item's data without opening menus.
Command Blocks
Hold a Command Block to see its stored command and settings on the HUD. Before placing a chain of command blocks, verify each one's command so you do not wire up the wrong sequence. This saves you from breaking and replacing blocks repeatedly.
Written Books
Holding a Written Book shows its title and author, letting you identify the correct copy among several identical-looking books. Use this when distributing books to players or sorting a library.
Paintings
A held Painting reveals which artwork variant it will place. Pick the variant you want before hanging it, avoiding the guesswork of placing and breaking paintings until the right one appears.
Workflow Tip
Because the overlay only appears for the held item, move each candidate into your hand one at a time and read the panel. Keep your hotbar organized so the item you are inspecting is easy to select and swap back out.
