Configuring Guard Villagers Spawn Rates and Behavior
Where the config lives
Guard Villagers ships with a configuration file that controls how Guards spawn and behave. After first launch, look in your instance's config folder for a file named after the mod. Open it with any text editor. Changes apply on world reload or server restart, so edit before launching if possible.
What you can typically tune
- Natural spawning: whether Guards spawn in villages on their own, and how often.
- Spawn caps: the maximum number of Guards allowed per village or per area, so you don't end up with an army.
- Combat behavior: how aggressively Guards engage, and whether they follow villagers or hold ground.
- Egg and item availability: some configs gate spawn eggs or guard-related items behind toggles.
Step-by-step
1. Close Minecraft (or stop the server) so the config isn't overwritten on exit.
2. Open the config file and read the comments — they explain each option's valid values.
3. Change only one setting at a time, then reload and test in a throwaway world.
4. For servers, copy the same config to every client that needs matching behavior, or keep it server-side if the mod supports it.
Why bother
Tuning spawn caps prevents lag from too many Guards pathfinding at once. Disabling natural spawns is useful for adventure maps where you want to place Guards manually with eggs. Adjusting aggression helps if Guards are killing mobs you'd rather farm.
