Guard Villagers Autonomous Villager Defense Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get villagers to turn into guards?
Place a bell in your village and wait for enemies to approach—villagers will automatically transform into guards when threats get close enough. If you've disabled the bell requirement in config, guards will spawn based purely on enemy proximity to the town.
What counts as a valid town for this mod?
A valid town needs at least one bed, one job block, and one bell, with a villager actually claiming the bed. This works for both naturally generated villages and custom towns you build yourself.
Can I stop the mod from converting my villagers into guards?
Yes—enable the spawn option in the configuration to create brand-new guards from thin air instead of converting your existing villagers into fighters.
Why aren't villagers picking up weapons?
Check your config to ensure the villager types you want are allowed to become guards, and verify that enemies are within the detection distance you've set. Also confirm that a bell is present if you haven't disabled the bell requirement.
How many guards will spawn in my village?
The mod maintains a minimum of two guards in the area when enemies are present, but you can set a strict maximum limit in the configuration to prevent too many guards from spawning.
Which villagers become guards first?
The mod prioritizes nitwits (lazy villagers) first, then unemployed villagers, then workers you've never traded with—this preserves your useful trading villagers.
Can I change how far away guards detect enemies?
Yes, the detection distance is fully configurable—you can adjust how far guards and the town can sense incoming threats in the mod settings.
Do guards drop loot when they die?
Guard loot drops are configurable, so you can turn them on or off depending on whether you want guards to drop items when defeated.
What weapons do guard villagers use?
Guards equip swords, crossbows, and shields to defend their village, as shown in the mod's combat screenshots.
Can I control the cooldown between new guard spawns?
Yes, you can adjust the spawn cooldown time in the configuration to make guards appear more or less frequently when needed.
