Configuring Grindstone Sharper Tools: Uses, Damage Bonus, and Chat Alerts
Where the settings live
The mod exposes its options through its config file, which is generated on first launch. You can edit it directly or, if the mod provides one, through an in-game config screen from the mods list. Changes generally require a game restart or world reload to take effect.
The knobs you can turn
- usesAfterGrinding — how many empowered hits a sharpened tool gets before the buff expires. The default is low (in the tens), and the allowed range goes up to several thousand, so you can make sharpening a long-lasting buff or a brief burst.
- sharpenedDamageModifier — how much extra damage each sharpened hit deals. Raise it for a dramatic buff, lower it for subtle balance.
- Name display toggle — controls whether the item's name shows the remaining uses.
- Chat notification toggle — controls the 75/50/25/10% alert messages.
Server vs. client
On multiplayer, the server's config wins. If you're a player on someone else's server, editing your local file won't change the mechanic — ask the admin to adjust uses or damage. On singleplayer, your config is authoritative.
Balancing advice
If sharpening feels too strong, lower the damage modifier first, then reduce uses. If it feels pointless, raise uses before raising damage — a longer-lasting small bonus usually feels better than a huge bonus that vanishes in a few swings.
