Grindstone Sharper Tools Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I sharpen a weapon with the grindstone?
Hold the weapon in your main hand and sneak (Shift) while right-clicking the grindstone. A normal right-click just opens the grindstone GUI, so the sneak is what triggers sharpening.
Why isn't my grindstone sharpening working?
The most common cause is forgetting to sneak — a plain right-click opens the grindstone interface instead. Make sure you're holding the tool in your main hand and that the grindstone isn't already open.
How do I know if my weapon is sharpened?
The tool's name updates to show how many sharpened uses remain, and you'll get chat alerts as those uses drop. If the name doesn't change, the sharpening didn't apply.
How many hits does a sharpened weapon last?
It lasts for a configurable number of uses, which you can set in the mod's config file. Once the uses run out, the bonus damage stops and you'll need to sharpen it again.
How much extra damage does sharpening add?
The bonus damage is controlled by the sharpenedDamageModifier setting in the config. You can raise or lower it to make sharpening as strong or as subtle as you like.
Can I sharpen any tool or just swords?
The mod is built around sharpening tools and weapons you hold while sneaking at the grindstone. If a tool doesn't sharpen, check that it's a valid target in your config rather than assuming only swords work.
How do I turn off the chat notifications?
Chat alerts are a configurable feature, so you can disable them in the mod's config file. Look for the notification or alert option and set it to off if the 75/50/25/10% messages get spammy.
Does sharpening remove my enchantments?
No — sharpening is separate from the vanilla grindstone's enchantment-removal function. Sneak + right-click applies the damage bonus without stripping your enchants.
Can I re-sharpen a weapon that's already sharpened?
Yes, you can sharpen again to refresh the uses, but it won't stack the bonus damage on top of itself. Re-sharpening just resets the remaining hit counter.
Does this mod work on servers and with other combat mods?
It works on servers as long as the mod is installed on both sides, and it generally plays fine with other combat mods since it only modifies damage on sharpened tools. If damage numbers look off, check for conflicts with mods that also change weapon damage.
