Gradient Clouds Resource Pack FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Why don't I see the gradient effect on my clouds?
Make sure your video settings have clouds set to "Fancy" instead of "Fast" — the gradient effect only works with Fancy clouds. Also check that you're using vanilla rendering, as this pack doesn't work with Sodium or other incompatible rendering mods.
Do I need to enable shaders in my settings?
No, you don't need to install or enable a separate shader pack. The gradient effect uses core shaders that are built into the resource pack and work automatically once installed.
What happens when I fly above the clouds?
The gradient flips automatically — instead of fading from solid to clear going upward, it reverses so the top of the clouds stays solid and the bottom fades to clear, keeping the effect visually consistent from above.
Can I use this with Sodium?
No, this pack relies on vanilla core shaders which Sodium doesn't support. You'll need to use vanilla rendering or another compatible renderer.
What happens when I fly through the middle of a cloud?
The textures blend smoothly as you pass through, creating a soft transition instead of a jarring pop or hard edge.
Does the gradient direction change based on where I am?
Yes, the fade direction adjusts depending on your position — when you're on the ground looking up, the gradient fades one way, and it adapts as you move and change altitude.
Will this affect my performance?
The gradient effect uses core shaders efficiently, but performance impact depends on your hardware and settings. If you experience lag, try lowering render distance or other graphics settings.
Do the clouds still look like Minecraft clouds?
Yes, the clouds keep their classic square blocky shape — the gradient just adds a smooth fade effect to make them look softer and more like the clouds from Minecraft: Story Mode.
Does this work in all biomes?
The gradient effect works everywhere, but it looks different depending on the sky color and lighting of each biome and time of day — sunsets and different biomes create unique visual effects.
Can I use this with other resource packs?
You can layer it with other packs, but if another pack also modifies clouds or core shaders, they may conflict. Place Gradient Clouds higher in your pack order if you want its effects to take priority.
