Survive a Fall into a Deep Cave
Prepare Before Descent
Bring a pickaxe with you into any cave system. Higher-tier pickaxes (iron, diamond, netherite) will grip walls longer and take less durability damage, so prioritize these for deep exploration.
Execute the Catch
When you begin falling, look toward any nearby stone, deepslate, or hard rock wall. Right-click the wall surface while holding your pickaxe. Your character will dig in and friction will slow your descent immediately.
On hard blocks like stone and obsidian, you'll stop completely and hang in place. This gives you time to assess your surroundings and plan your next move safely.
Escape the Wall
Once stable, you have two options:
- Climb down slowly: Release the right-click to slide down soft blocks (dirt, sand) at a controlled pace, taking minimal fall damage.
- Jump away: Double-tap your Crouch key within 0.7 seconds to kick off the wall and leap to safety or toward a ledge.
If you slip before reaching the bottom, the Momentum enchantment reduces your cooldown to grab again quickly.
