Slide Down Safely Without Stopping
Target Soft Blocks
When you need to descend gradually rather than hang in place, aim your right-click at soft blocks like dirt, sand, or gravel. These materials provide friction that slows your fall without locking you completely in place.
Control Your Descent
Right-click the soft block surface to engage. You'll slide downward smoothly while friction reduces your impact damage by approximately half compared to a free fall. This is ideal for long vertical drops where you need to reach the bottom safely.
Transition Between Block Types
As you slide down a soft block wall, you can reposition toward a harder block (stone, deepslate) if you need to stop completely and hang. Conversely, if you're hanging on a hard block and want to descend, shift your aim to softer material below.
Minimize Durability Loss
Soft blocks consume more durability per second than hard blocks, so use this technique strategically. Reserve soft-block sliding for situations where you're confident about the path ahead and want steady, damage-reduced descent.
