GoodMC Old Combat & Blockhitting Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on blockhitting?
Blockhitting is enabled by default when you install the mod. Simply hold right-click with a sword equipped to block incoming damage, then click left-click to attack while blocking—this is the core blockhitting technique. You can adjust blocking strength and other combat settings in the in-game settings menu.
Why can't I block with my sword?
Make sure you're holding a sword in your hand and right-clicking (not left-clicking). If blocking is still not working, check the in-game settings menu to confirm sword blocking is enabled and not disabled by another setting.
How fast can I swing my weapon?
With the attack cooldown removed, you can swing as fast as you can click—there is no built-in delay between attacks like in newer Minecraft versions. Your attack speed is limited only by your click speed and your mouse/input device.
Do sweep attacks still happen?
Sweep attacks are disabled by default unless your sword has the Sweeping Edge enchantment, which restores the sweep effect. This keeps combat closer to classic 1.8 rules where only enchanted weapons could hit multiple enemies in one swing.
Can I use this mod on multiplayer servers?
Yes, the mod works on both singleplayer worlds and multiplayer servers. However, the server must allow client-side mods or have the mod installed server-side for all features to work properly in PvP situations.
How do I adjust combat settings?
Open the in-game settings menu (usually accessible from the pause menu or a keybind) to find all combat-related options. From there you can enable/disable blocking, adjust animation styles, control sweep attacks, and customize other mechanics to match your playstyle.
Why do my animations look different from other players?
The mod changes your client-side animations to classic 1.7 style (swing motions, eating, item holds), but other players see these changes only if they also have the mod installed. On servers without the mod, other players will see standard animations.
Does this mod affect my attack damage?
The mod does not change damage values—only attack speed and blocking mechanics. Sword blocking reduces incoming damage by half, but your outgoing damage remains the same as vanilla Minecraft.
Can I disable blockhitting if I don't want it?
Yes, you can disable sword blocking and adjust all combat mechanics in the in-game settings menu. You can turn off blocking entirely or customize which features are active to suit your preference.
Does this mod work with other combat mods?
Compatibility depends on what other mods modify combat mechanics. If you're using multiple mods that change attack speed, blocking, or animations, they may conflict—test them together and adjust settings in each mod's menu to find a working combination.
