Bring a pickaxe, sword, and basic supplies—skip torches entirely. The animated glow from ore blocks illuminates surrounding stone, creating natural light paths through tunnels. Rare ore deposits shine brightest, naturally guiding you toward valuable resources.

Navigation Tips

When entering a new tunnel, look for clusters of glowing blocks. The concentration of colors tells you what ores are nearby. Move toward the brightest glows first. The pulsing animation makes it easy to spot ore even when you're not looking directly at it—peripheral vision catches the movement.

This approach works best in deep caves where multiple ore types cluster together. The combined glow from diamond, redstone, and gold deposits creates enough light to see your surroundings clearly. In sparse areas, keep a torch handy as backup, but you'll find most deep mining requires minimal additional lighting.
