How to Make Giants Spawn Underground

Understand the Default Behavior

Giant Spawn Mod is configured so that only zombies spawning on the surface can become giants. This is controlled by the option onlySpawnGiantOnSurface, which defaults to true. If you want giants to appear in caves, mineshafts, and other underground areas, you need to change this.

Edit the Config

Locate giantspawn-common.toml inside the config folder of your Minecraft directory. Open it with a text editor and find onlySpawnGiantOnSurface. Set it to false. Save the file and restart Minecraft or your server.

What Changes In-Game

With this disabled, any zombie that spawns underground now has the same chance to become a giant as surface zombies do, based on chanceSurfaceZombieIsGiant. This means caves and dark tunnels can suddenly contain towering zombies that are much harder to escape in tight spaces.

  • Bring strong gear before caving, since giants hit hard and have large reach.
  • Light up caves thoroughly if you want to prevent giant spawns there.
  • If you only want giants above ground, leave the option at true.
  • Remember that lowering the spawn chance also reduces how many giants appear underground.
