Geyser Plugin FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know if Geyser is actually running on my server?
Check your server console on startup for Geyser's banner and a line telling you the listening port for Bedrock clients. If you don't see it, the plugin failed to load or is missing its config folder.
What port do Bedrock players connect to?
Bedrock clients connect to the port set in Geyser's config, which is separate from your Java server port. Make sure that port is open in your firewall and forwarded if you're self-hosting.
Do Bedrock players need a Java account to join?
By default yes, they need to link or log into a Java account. Install Floodgate alongside Geyser if you want Bedrock players to join without owning Java Edition.
Why do Bedrock players spawn in the wrong place or fall through the world?
This usually means the Bedrock client and Java server are out of sync on chunk data, often from a slow connection or a version mismatch. Restarting the server and confirming Geyser and the server are on compatible versions usually fixes it.
Can Bedrock players see Java-only features like custom resource packs or shaders?
No, Bedrock clients can't render Java shaders or many Java-specific visuals. Geyser translates gameplay and packets, but visual mods and shaders won't carry over.
Why can't my Bedrock friends connect even though Java players can?
The most common causes are the Bedrock port not being open, Geyser not listening on the right address, or a firewall blocking UDP. Verify the port in Geyser's config and test from outside your network.
Does Geyser work with plugins like WorldEdit or economy plugins?
Most server-side plugins work fine because they run on the Java server and Geyser only translates packets. Plugins that rely on Java client-side behavior or custom GUIs may look different or break for Bedrock players.
How do I run Geyser as a standalone proxy instead of a plugin?
Run Geyser in standalone mode and point it at the Java server's address in its config, then have Bedrock players connect to the Geyser proxy address. This lets one Geyser instance bridge to a Java server you don't control.
Why do Bedrock players get kicked with an authentication or login error?
This is usually an online-mode mismatch: the Java server expects Java authentication while the Bedrock client can't provide it. Either enable Floodgate or set the server to offline mode if you understand the security tradeoffs.
Does Geyser hurt server performance with many Bedrock players?
Geyser adds some CPU overhead per Bedrock connection because it translates every packet, but it's generally light for small to medium player counts. If you see lag, check whether the bottleneck is Geyser or the Java server itself.
