How to Configure Which Gamemode Commands Are Enabled

Why Configure

GamemodeOverhaul is fully configurable: every command and argument it adds can be toggled on or off. Server owners use this to keep only the shortcuts they actually want, or to restrict players from using certain aliases.

Finding the Config

The mod generates a config file on the server, usually in the config folder alongside other mod configs. Open it with a text editor. You will see entries for each command family — /gamemode, /gm, the /gm* shortcuts, and /defaultgamemode — plus options for whether numeric and letter arguments are accepted.

Toggling Commands

Set an entry to true to enable it or false to disable it. For example, disabling the /gm* family removes /gmc, /gms, /gma, and /gmsp while leaving /gm intact. Disabling numeric arguments means only full mode names work.

Applying Changes

After editing, save the file and restart the server (or reload if the mod supports it). Changes do not apply to already-running sessions until reloaded. Test by typing a command in chat — if it returns "unknown command," it is disabled.

Tips

  • Keep a backup of the config before editing.
  • If players report a shortcut missing, check the config first before assuming a bug.
  • You can leave /gamemode enabled for staff while disabling the shorter aliases for regular players, depending on how your permission setup works.
