GamemodeOverhaul Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I change my gamemode with this mod?
Use /gamemode followed by a name, number, or letter, or the shorter /gm command. For example, /gamemode c, /gm 1, or /gmc all set you to creative mode.
What numbers and letters can I use for each gamemode?
Each gamemode has a number and a letter shortcut: survival, creative, adventure, and spectator each map to their own digit and initial letter. Type the value after /gamemode or /gm, like /gamemode sp for spectator or /gamemode 2 for adventure.
Why doesn't /gamemode 1 work on my server?
The numeric and letter arguments are only available if that command is enabled in the mod's config. Check the config file and make sure the gamemode command and its legacy arguments are turned on.
Do I need to install this mod on my client too?
No. GamemodeOverhaul is only required on the server. You can join a server running it with a vanilla client and still use the commands.
What's the difference between /gm and /gm*?
/gm takes an argument like /gm c or /gm 0, while /gm* commands like /gmc and /gms have the gamemode built into the command itself. The /gm* form does not accept numbers.
How do I set the default gamemode for new players?
Use /defaultgamemode with a gamemode name, number, or letter, the same way you would with /gamemode. This mod restores that command's legacy argument support.
Can I disable some of the commands this mod adds?
Yes. The mod is fully configurable, so you can enable only the commands you want and disable the rest. Edit the config file to toggle each command on or off.
Does /gmc work with numbers like /gmc 1?
No. The /gm* shortcuts like /gmc and /gms only accept the letter form built into the command, not numbers. Use /gm or /gamemode if you want to pass a number.
Will this mod conflict with other command or permission mods?
It can conflict if another mod also registers the same commands or overrides vanilla command behavior. If a command stops working, check your other mods and the config to see which one is handling it.
Does this mod affect server performance?
No, it only adds and restores command handling, so it has no meaningful impact on tick rate or memory. Any lag you see is almost certainly from something else.
