Fzzy Config Mod FAQ
19 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the Fzzy Config screen for a mod?
Open the mod list from the main menu or pause screen, select the mod you want to configure, and click the Config button if it has one. Mods using Fzzy Config will open a graphical settings screen instead of a raw text file.
Why does the Config button not show up for some mods?
Only mods that register their config through Fzzy Config get the in-game button. If a mod uses a different config system or has no config at all, you will need to edit its file manually or use that mod's own screen.
Where are Fzzy Config files stored?
They live in the config folder inside your Minecraft instance, saved as TOML files named after the mod. Server-side configs are stored in the world's serverconfig folder instead.
Can I change config values while the game is running?
Yes, most settings apply immediately when you save them in the config screen, and some can even be changed live from a client on a server. A few settings still require a game or server restart to take effect.
How do I change server settings from my client?
If the server has live editing enabled, open the config screen for that mod while connected and edit the values; your changes are sent to the server. You need the right permissions on the server, otherwise the edits will be rejected.
Why did my config reset or revert after I edited it?
This usually happens when the file has a syntax error, an out-of-range value, or a duplicate entry, so Fzzy Config falls back to defaults. Check the log for a parsing warning and fix or delete the offending line.
How do I reset a config back to its default values?
Open the config screen and use the reset option, or delete the mod's TOML file in the config folder and let the game regenerate it on next launch. Deleting the file is the cleanest way to start fresh.
Can I edit the TOML file by hand instead of using the screen?
Yes, TOML files are plain text and can be edited in any text editor while the game is closed. Keep the existing keys and value types intact, since Fzzy Config validates ranges and will reject invalid entries.
Does Fzzy Config hurt performance or cause lag?
No, it is a lightweight library that only reads and validates settings when they are loaded or changed. Any lag you see is almost always from the mod whose settings you are changing, not from Fzzy Config itself.
Is Fzzy Config compatible with other config mods like Cloth Config or Forge Config API?
Yes, it is a standalone library and does not conflict with other config systems, since each mod uses its own. Mods built on Fzzy Config simply use its screen, while mods on other systems keep using theirs.
What does Fzzy Config Mod actually do?
It's a configuration library that other mods use to build their settings screens, so you'll see it as the menu behind many mods' config options rather than a mod with its own gameplay content. It stores settings in TOML files and gives you an in-game GUI to edit them.
How do I open the fzzy config menu?
Open the mod list, select a mod that uses Fzzy Config, and click its config button to launch the Fzzy Config screen. Many mods also add a keybind or a button in their own menus that opens the same interface.
Why is fzzy config in my mods folder if I never installed it?
It's a dependency, so it was pulled in automatically by another mod that relies on it for its config system. Removing it will break those mods' settings screens, so leave it in place.
Where are fzzy config settings saved?
Settings are written as TOML files inside the config folder of your Minecraft instance, usually in a subfolder named after the mod. You can edit them by hand, but the in-game GUI is safer because it validates values.
Can I edit the config files manually instead of using the GUI?
Yes, the TOML files are plain text and human-readable. Just close the game first, since changes made while running can be overwritten when the game saves its in-memory settings.
Why did my setting reset after I restarted the game?
This usually happens when the value you entered is outside the allowed range, so Fzzy Config falls back to the default instead of saving it. Check the tooltip or the field's error highlight for the valid range and re-enter a value inside it.
What does the search bar in the config menu do?
It filters settings by name or category so you can find an option without scrolling through every page. It's the fastest way to locate a specific toggle in a mod with a large config.
Can I change server settings from the client with fzzy config?
If the server mod allows it, yes — Fzzy Config supports live updates to server settings sent from a client, and can forward client settings to other players. Whether a specific setting is editable this way depends on how the mod's author configured permissions.
Is fzzy config safe to use on a server?
Yes, it's designed for both client and server use and handles syncing between them. Server-side settings that are marked as requiring permission won't be changeable by regular players.
