Using Full Brightness While Mining and Caving

The main reason players install this pack is to explore caves and strip-mine without hauling stacks of torches. Here's how to get the most out of it underground.

What Changes Underground

With the pack active, the lightmap is replaced so every block renders at full brightness regardless of actual light level. Caves, ravines, and deep tunnels are all visible. You no longer need torches for *seeing* — but note the game's actual light level is unchanged.

What Still Matters

  • Mob spawning: Hostile mobs still spawn in genuinely dark areas. Brightness is visual only, so light up your base and mining tunnels if you want to stop spawns.
  • Ore spotting: Ores are easier to see against bright stone, but you still need the right pickaxe tier to mine them.
  • Lava and water: These look the same; brightness doesn't change fluid behavior.

Practical Tips

  • Carry fewer torches and more inventory space for ore.
  • Use the pack to scout cave branches quickly, then place light only where you'll settle or store things.
  • Combine with a minimap or coordinates mod if you want to track explored tunnels — brightness won't help you navigate back.

This makes long mining trips far less tedious, especially in large cave systems.
