FTB XMod Compat Mod FAQ
20 questions players actually ask, answered.
Does FTB XMod Compat do anything on its own?
No. It is a background compatibility layer that only activates features when it detects specific mods like FTB Quests, FTB Chunks, KubeJS, Game Stages, JEI, REI, Waystones, LuckPerms, or FTB Ranks installed alongside it. If you install it alone, you will not see any new items, blocks, or menus.
How do I know if FTB XMod Compat is actually working?
Check that the mods you want integrated are installed and loaded, then look for the integration in action — for example, Waystones appearing on the FTB Chunks map, or FTB Quests reacting to Game Stages changes. There is no config screen or item to open; the features simply appear when both sides of an integration are present.
Do I need KubeJS or Game Stages for FTB Quests progression to work?
No. If neither KubeJS nor Game Stages is installed, FTB XMod Compat provides a built-in stage system based on tags, so you can still gate quests without adding another mod. If you do install KubeJS or Game Stages, the mod will use those instead.
My FTB Quests aren't unlocking when a player's Game Stage changes — what's wrong?
Make sure the quest is actually set up to be gated by that stage and that the stage name matches exactly. FTB XMod Compat re-checks quest completion when a player's stage changes, so if the stage is granted correctly the quest should update without a relog.
Why don't my Waystones show up on the FTB Chunks map?
The Waystones mod must be installed and the waystone must be within a chunk you have claimed or can see in FTB Chunks. If Waystones is missing, the map integration simply won't activate.
Can I use LuckPerms instead of FTB Ranks for FTB Chunks limits?
Yes. FTB XMod Compat lets FTB Chunks read per-player limits from either FTB Ranks or LuckPerms, so you can pick whichever permissions system your server already uses. You only need one of them installed for the limit integration to work.
Do I need both JEI and REI for the FTB Quests recipe display?
No, you only need one. FTB XMod Compat works with either JEI or REI to show recipes for item tasks and to display items from loot crates inside FTB Quests.
Will FTB XMod Compat cause lag or performance issues on my server?
It is designed to run in the background and only does work when the relevant mods are present and their features are triggered, so it should not add noticeable overhead. If you suspect it, test with only the mods involved in a specific integration enabled.
Can I use KubeJS and Game Stages at the same time with this mod?
You can have both installed, but FTB XMod Compat will use one of them for progression control rather than running both systems simultaneously. Pick the one your pack is designed around to avoid confusion about which system is gating quests or chunks.
Does FTB XMod Compat add its own config options I need to set?
There is nothing you need to configure for the integrations to work — they activate automatically based on which mods are detected. If a feature isn't appearing, the usual cause is a missing companion mod rather than a config toggle.
What does FTB XMod Compat actually do? I installed it and nothing happened.
It's a background compatibility layer, not a content mod, so it adds no blocks, items, or commands of its own. Its features only activate when it detects specific other mods installed alongside it, so an empty log or no visible change is normal.
How do I know if FTB XMod Compat is working?
Check that the mods it bridges are actually present — for example FTB Quests plus KubeJS, Game Stages, JEI, or REI. If the paired mods are installed, the integration features turn on automatically with no config step required.
Does FTB XMod Compat need to be installed on the server, the client, or both?
Install it on both sides so the integrations behave consistently for everyone. Some features, like map and recipe display hooks, are client-side, while progression and claim limits are server-side.
Can I use FTB Quests progression without KubeJS or Game Stages?
Yes. FTB XMod Compat includes a simple built-in stage system that uses tags, so you can gate quests even if neither KubeJS nor Game Stages is installed. If either of those mods is present, it will use them instead.
Why aren't my Waystones showing up on the FTB Chunks map?
Make sure the Waystones mod is installed and that you've actually discovered or activated the waystones in-world. FTB XMod Compat only draws waystones that exist and are known to you, and they appear on both the minimap and the fullscreen map.
How do I set claim limits for players in FTB Chunks?
Install either FTB Ranks or LuckPerms and assign the relevant permission or rank nodes to your players. FTB XMod Compat reads those values and applies them as claim limits in FTB Chunks.
Do I need both FTB Ranks and LuckPerms for claim limits?
No, either one works. FTB XMod Compat supports both, so pick whichever permission system your server already uses.
Will FTB XMod Compat conflict with JEI or REI?
No, it's designed to work with them. It hooks into JEI or REI to display recipes for FTB Quests item tasks and to show items contained in loot crates.
Does FTB XMod Compat hurt performance or cause lag?
It's a lightweight integration mod that mostly registers hooks and event listeners, so it shouldn't meaningfully affect performance. If you see lag, look at the mods it's bridging, like large quest packs or map rendering.
My quests aren't updating when a player's Game Stages stage changes. What's wrong?
FTB XMod Compat rechecks quest completion when a player's stage changes, so this should happen automatically. If it isn't, confirm Game Stages is installed on both client and server and that the stage is actually being granted to the player.
