Choosing Between Shapeless, Small Tunnel and Other Ultimine Modes
Why Modes Matter
Ultimine is not only for ore veins. It has several mining modes you cycle through, and each one changes what counts as a connected block. The mode you pick decides whether you strip a vein, carve a corridor, or flatten an area.
Cycling Modes
1. Find the keybind for cycling Ultimine mode (check the FTB Ultimine controls category).
2. Press it to step through the available modes. A message or HUD indicator shows the current one.
3. Hold the Ultimine key and mine to apply the selected mode.
Common Modes and When to Use Them
- Shapeless/vein mode: breaks all matching connected blocks, ideal for ore veins and logs.
- Small tunnel mode: digs a straight corridor in the direction you face, useful for branch mining.
- Wider tunnel or escape modes: carve a larger cross-section or a quick shaft to get unstuck.
Match the mode to the job. Vein mode on a stone wall wastes durability; tunnel mode on a diamond vein leaves ore behind. Switch modes before you start, not mid-vein.
