How to Make an Incompatible Resource Pack Load with FTB Obsidian

The Compatibility Problem

Minecraft refuses to enable a resource pack whose pack.mcmeta declares a pack format the game does not recognise, showing it as incompatible and greying it out. Modpack authors hit this constantly when shipping packs built for a different game version.

Overriding the Check

FTB Obsidian lets you bypass that check through ftbobsidian-startup.snbt. In the config you declare which resource packs should be treated as compatible regardless of their declared format. Add the pack's ID to that override list the same way you would add it to the forced list.

Once listed, Minecraft no longer evaluates the pack format for that entry and will let it load. This is useful when a pack is functionally fine but only fails the version gate.

Cautions

Overriding compatibility does not magically fix a pack that genuinely uses removed or renamed assets. You may see missing textures or purple-and-black checkerboards for anything the pack does not cover. Test the pack in-game after enabling the override, and only override packs you have verified actually work. Keep the override list short so future pack updates are easy to audit.
