Ftb Materials FAQ
22 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I get started with Ftb Materials?
Find and mine an ore block such as
Aluminum Ore or
Bauxite Ore, then process the raw drops into ingots, dusts, or nuggets using your tech mod's machines. Start with Aluminum since it feeds into wires, plates, and alloys like brass and bronze.

Bauxite Ore, then process the raw drops into ingots, dusts, or nuggets using your tech mod's machines. Start with Aluminum since it feeds into wires, plates, and alloys like brass and bronze. What's the difference between dust, dirty dust, clump, crystal, shard, and chunk?
These are the intermediate forms produced by different ore-processing chains (macerating, washing, crystallizing, etc.) before they smelt or craft into ingots. Dirty Dust is the unwashed early stage, Clump and Crystal come from chemical/dissolution lines, and Shard/Chunk are alternate byproducts.
How do I turn
Aluminum Chunk or Clump into an ingot?
Run the chunk or clump through your tech mod's smelting or processing machine the same way you'd handle any ore intermediate. The exact machine depends on which tech mod you've paired with FTB Materials.
How do I make Brass and Bronze?
Brass is typically an alloy of Copper and Zinc, and Bronze is Copper plus Tin, mixed in an alloying furnace or crafting grid depending on your tech mod. Check the in-game recipe viewer (JEI/REI) for the exact ratio your pack uses.
How do I craft Plates, Rods, Gears, and Wires?
Each is made from the matching ingot using a metal press, rolling machine, wire mill, or similar tool from your tech mod. If you don't have those machines yet, some recipes also work in a crafting table with a hammer.
Why can't I smelt my
Aluminum Dust into an ingot?
Dusts generally smelt fine, but some intermediates like Dirty Dust or Clump must be washed or processed first. Check the recipe viewer for the correct next step in the chain.
What is Apatite used for?
Apatite is a phosphate mineral used in fertilizer and chemical processing chains, and it also appears as a gem, dust, ore, and wire form in this mod. Use it wherever your tech mod calls for phosphate or fertilizer inputs.
What is Cinnabar used for?
Cinnabar is a mercury-bearing ore used in chemical and ore-processing recipes, often for extracting metals or making mercury. Process it in your tech mod's chemical machines rather than smelting it directly.
What is Chromium used for?
Chromium is a metal used in advanced alloys and stainless-steel-style recipes in tech packs. It usually comes from processing Chromite ore through a multi-step chain rather than mining it directly.
Does Ftb Materials add its own machines or is it just items?
It's primarily an item and material library — ores, ingots, dusts, gears, plates, wires, and blocks — designed to be used with a tech mod that provides the machines. You'll need something like Thermal, Mekanism, or Create to actually process them.
How do I store all these materials without my chests becoming a mess?
Use a storage system like AE2, Refined Storage, or a drawer/barrel setup, and set up ore-dictionary or tag-based unification so duplicate ingots and dusts merge. Sorting by material type (ingots, dusts, gears, wires) also helps.
Is Ftb Materials compatible with other tech mods?
Yes — it's built to slot into tech packs and uses common ore dictionary/tag conventions so its ingots, dusts, and plates substitute for equivalents from other mods. Check your pack's recipe viewer to confirm which recipes accept them.
What does the Ftb Materials Mod do?
It provides a unified set of resources and recipes for modpacks, covering a wide range of materials from vanilla to modded resources. It is designed to be flexible so modpack creators can customize or remove unneeded resources.
What items and blocks does Ftb Materials add?
It registers 160 items and blocks, including ores, ingots, nuggets, dusts, plates, gears, rods, gems, crystals, wires, shards, clumps, dirty dust, and blades for many materials. It also adds blocks of those materials, such as
block of aluminum,
block of bronze, and
block of platinum.
block of aluminum,
block of bronze, and
block of platinum.Which materials does Ftb Materials support?
It supports materials including Aluminum, Apatite, Bronze, Copper, Diamond, Gold, Iron, Netherite, Quartz, Osmium, Signalum, and Dimensional Shard. Each material can appear in multiple forms like ores, ingots, nuggets, dusts, plates, gears, rods, gems, crystals, wires, shards, clumps, dirty dust, and blades.
Does Ftb Materials add ore generation?
It is un-opinionated on ore generation, leaving modpack creators to unify world gen with their preferred systems. This can be done using mods like KubeJS or Almost Unified.
What recipes does Ftb Materials provide?
It provides standardized recipes for smelting, converting ingots to nuggets, nuggets to ingots, blocks to materials, and more. The wiki lists crafting, blasting, and smelting recipes.
Does Ftb Materials work with Almost Unified?
Yes, it is designed to work with unification mods like Almost Unified. It also supports resource pruning via KubeJS.
Can I remove resources from Ftb Materials?
Yes, modpack creators can use tools like KubeJS or Almost Unified to customize or remove unneeded resources. This allows for streamlined resource management in complex modpacks.
Does Ftb Materials require addons?
No, it aims to include a comprehensive range of materials without requiring addons. This is unlike similar mods such as Emendatus Enigmatica or All the Ores.
What are the categories of Ftb Materials?
It is categorized under Ores and Resources. The mod is a home-grown resources mod that attempts to provide a wide range of resources.
What sections does the Ftb Materials wiki have?
The wiki page has sections for Processes, Items, Blocks, and Related mods. It also has a guide page for Environmental Materials.
