How to Change Your Chat Nickname with FTB Essentials

The /nick command lets you change the name other players see in chat. It is handy on servers where you want a shorter name, a roleplay name, or just something different from your account username.

Using /nick

1. Type /nick followed by the name you want. For example, /nick Steve sets your chat name to Steve.

2. Press enter. Your next chat message should show the new nickname instead of your original username.

3. To change it again, just run /nick with a different name.

4. To reset it back to your normal username, run /nick with your original account name, or check whether the server has a reset option in its config.

Limitations to Expect

• Nicknames are usually limited in length and may not allow spaces or special characters, depending on server configuration.
• Some servers restrict /nick to certain ranks or disable it entirely. If the command fails, ask an operator.
• The nickname only affects chat display. It does not change your actual account name, so commands that target players still use your real username.

Pair /nick with /hat to give yourself a fully custom look and identity on the server.
