How to Force-Load Chunks So Farms and Machines Keep Running
What Force-Loading Does
Normally, Minecraft only ticks chunks near a player. Force-loading tells the game to keep a chunk active even when you're far away or offline (depending on server settings). This is essential for automated farms, mob spawners, and machines that need to run continuously.
Enabling Force-Load on a Chunk
1. Open the large map with your map keybind.
2. Switch to Claim Mode and make sure the chunk you want is already claimed — you can only force-load chunks you own.
3. Click the chunk and look for the Force Load toggle (often a small icon or a right-click option in the chunk info panel).
4. Enable it. The chunk will display a distinct marker showing it's force-loaded.
You can also shift-click or use the chunk info popup to toggle force-loading without leaving the map.
Limits and Cautions
Servers usually cap how many chunks each player can force-load, so check the counter in the Claim Manager. Force-loading too many chunks can hurt server performance, so only load what your machines truly need. If a farm stops working while you're away, double-check that the chunk is both claimed and force-loaded, and that the machine's own chunk is included.
