FTB Chunks Mod FAQ
18 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the FTB Chunks map?
Press the map keybind (default is M) to open the large world map, and the minimap appears in the corner of your screen automatically. You can rebind both in the controls menu if they conflict with another mod.
How do I claim chunks in FTB Chunks?
Open the large map, then left-click chunks to claim them for yourself. Claimed chunks show a colored border and protect your blocks from other players.
Why can't I claim any more chunks?
You have hit your maximum claim limit, which is set by the server or by your rank/permissions. Ask the server admin to raise your limit or check the config if you're in singleplayer.
How do I force-load chunks so my farms keep running?
Open the map, then shift-click (or use the chunk's context menu) on a chunk you've already claimed to toggle force-loading on it. Force-loaded chunks stay active even when you're far away, but they count against a separate force-load limit.
How do I make a waypoint?
Right-click anywhere on the large map to create a waypoint at that spot. You can then rename it, recolor it, or delete it from the waypoint list.
How do I teleport to a waypoint?
Teleporting to waypoints is usually disabled by default and must be enabled in the server config or via permissions. If it's enabled, click the waypoint on the map and choose the teleport option.
How do I add a friend as an ally so they can use my base?
Open the map's ally/team menu and add the player by name to your ally list. Allies can interact with your claimed chunks and see your shared map data, depending on the permissions you grant.
Why can't my friend break blocks in my claimed chunk?
They aren't on your ally list, or the specific interaction (breaking, placing, using containers) isn't allowed for allies in your claim settings. Add them as an ally and check the per-claim permission toggles.
Does FTB Chunks work on a server without the mod installed?
No — claiming, force-loading, and ally features require the mod on the server side. The minimap and waypoints can work client-side, but protection and chunk loading won't function without server support.
FTB Chunks is causing lag or low FPS, how do I fix it?
Lower the minimap render distance and disable entity/player markers or cave mapping in the map settings. Force-loading many chunks also costs performance, so reduce your force-loaded chunk count if the server is struggling.
Why can't I claim chunks?
You likely don't have enough claim power, which is earned by playing time or granted by server config. On multiplayer servers, claiming may also be disabled or limited by the server admin.
How do I force-load chunks in ftb chunks?
Open the map, select a chunk you already own, and toggle the force-load option on it. Force-loaded chunks keep farms and machines running even when you're far away, but they consume extra server resources.
How many chunks can I force-load?
There's a limit based on your force-load power, which is separate from claim power. You can check your remaining force-load capacity in the map interface, and server configs may change the cap.
How do I make a waypoint in ftb chunks?
Right-click anywhere on the large map to create a waypoint at that spot. You can then rename it, change its color, or delete it from the waypoint list.
How do I add friends or allies in ftb chunks?
Open the map's ally or team menu and add the player by name to your ally list. Allies can interact with your claimed chunks and see your shared map data.
Why can't my friend break blocks in my claimed chunks?
They aren't on your ally list yet, so the claim is blocking them. Add them as an ally, and make sure the server allows ally permissions for the action they're trying to do.
Does ftb chunks work on a server?
Yes, but the server must have the mod installed and may restrict claiming, force-loading, or ally features through its config. Ask your server admin if claims aren't working as expected.
Is ftb chunks laggy or bad for performance?
The minimap and map rendering can cost some FPS, especially with many waypoints or a large explored area. Force-loaded chunks are the bigger concern on servers since they keep machines and entities ticking constantly.
