Optimize FS Shaders for Better Performance

Understanding Performance Impact

FS Shaders is designed to be lightweight, but your frame rate depends on your hardware and which features you enable. If you're experiencing lag, you don't need to uninstall the shader—instead, scale back specific visual features.

Reducing Shader Load

Open your shader settings menu and look for these common optimization options:

  • Shadow Quality: Lower shadow resolution or disable soft shadows entirely if frames drop significantly. Soft shadows are beautiful but computationally expensive.
  • Reflection Quality: Reduce water reflection detail or disable reflections on non-water blocks if present.
  • Ambient Occlusion: Disable or lower this setting—it darkens crevices but costs performance.
  • Weather Effects: Wet-weather effects are toggleable; disable them if rainstorms cause frame drops.

Finding Your Balance

Make one change at a time and test for 30 seconds in-game before adjusting further. Start by lowering shadow quality, as this typically has the biggest performance impact. Most players find a comfortable middle ground where the shader still looks great without sacrificing playability. Check your FPS counter to monitor improvements.
