FS Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on FS Shaders after installing it?
Launch Minecraft, go to Options > Video Settings > Shaders, then locate and select FS Shaders from your shader pack list. Click Apply and the shaders will load on your next world or when you rejoin your current world.
Why is my game lagging after installing FS Shaders?
FS Shaders includes performance optimization settings in its config menu. Open the shader options (usually by pressing a hotkey in-game, often right-click or a dedicated key), then look for shadow distance, reflection quality, or render distance settings to lower them until your frame rate improves.
Can I use FS Shaders with OptiFine and Iris at the same time?
No—you should use either OptiFine or Iris, not both. FS Shaders is compatible with both, so choose whichever one you prefer and install the shader pack for that loader only.
The water doesn't look reflective—how do I fix this?
Open the FS Shaders config menu in-game and check that reflective water or water reflections are enabled. You may also need to adjust water clarity or reflection intensity settings to see the effect more clearly.
Do the animated leaves work in all biomes?
Animated leaves apply to all foliage in the game, but the effect is most noticeable in forests and jungles where there are many leaves. You can adjust the animation intensity in the shader settings if the movement feels too strong or too subtle.
What's the wet-weather effect and when does it show up?
During rainstorms, FS Shaders adds a glossy, reflective coating to ground blocks and surfaces to simulate wet terrain. This effect automatically activates when it rains in your world and disappears when the rain stops.
Will FS Shaders work with my resource pack?
Yes, FS Shaders works alongside most resource packs. However, some resource packs with custom water or lighting textures may conflict with shader effects—if you notice visual glitches, try disabling the shader's reflective water or wet-weather effects temporarily to test compatibility.
How do I adjust shadow darkness or softness?
Open the shader options menu in-game and look for shadow-related settings like shadow intensity, shadow distance, or penumbra size. Adjusting these values will change how dark and soft the shadows appear across your world.
Can I use FS Shaders in multiplayer servers?
Yes, shaders are client-side only, so they won't affect other players or cause server conflicts. You can use FS Shaders on any server without needing permission or special setup.
Why do some blocks look strange or have visual artifacts with FS Shaders?
This usually happens with transparent or semi-transparent blocks that don't interact well with shader lighting. Try disabling specific shader features like reflections or wet effects temporarily, or check if a resource pack texture is conflicting with the shader's rendering.
