How to Make and Use Ice Skates for Fast Travel on Ice

What Ice Skates Do

Ice Skates are footwear that let you glide quickly across ice and packed ice, turning frozen lakes and oceans into highways. They are one of Frostiful's signature mobility items.

Crafting Ice Skates

Craft Ice Skates using the Ice Skate Upgrade smithing template applied to a pair of boots (typically leather or fur boots). The upgrade template is found in cold-biome structures or obtained through the mod's progression. Apply it at a smithing table.

Armored Ice Skates

For a tougher version, upgrade to Armored Ice Skates, which combine skating speed with armor protection. These are ideal for combat-heavy travel where you still want to move fast on ice.

Using Them Effectively

1. Equip the skates in your boots slot.

2. Walk onto ice, packed ice, blue ice, or Frostiful's cut ice blocks — you will accelerate and glide.

3. Steer with your movement keys; momentum carries you, so plan turns early.

4. Pair with fur armor so freezing does not kill you during long skating trips.

5. Build ice roads between bases for extremely fast travel.

Notes

Skates do not help on snow or normal ground. Combine them with a heat source at each end of your route to reset your freezing meter.
