Run Forward While Looking to the Side
Basic Technique
One of the most practical uses for FreeLook is maintaining forward momentum while checking your surroundings. This is essential for exploration, combat awareness, and navigation.
Steps
1. Hold down your FreeLook key (Left Alt by default)
2. Press and hold your forward movement key (W by default)
3. Move your mouse left or right to look sideways while continuing to run straight
4. Release FreeLook to snap your view back to forward
Common Scenarios
- Exploring: Run down a path while scanning the landscape to your sides for resources or mobs
- Combat: Keep moving toward an enemy while looking around for other threats
- Parkour: Maintain forward momentum through a course while checking for alternate routes
- Building: Walk past your structure while viewing it from different angles without stopping
The view is clamped to about 100 degrees left and right in first person, preventing you from looking completely backward while running.
