FreeLook Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start using FreeLook?
Hold Left Alt (by default) and move your mouse to look around while your player keeps moving in whatever direction you were heading. Release the key and your view snaps back to forward.
Can I change the FreeLook keybind?
Yes, open your Controls settings and search for FreeLook to rebind it to any key you prefer.
What's the difference between hold and toggle mode?
Hold mode requires you to keep the key pressed to look around; toggle mode lets you press once to enable FreeLook and press again to disable it. Switch between modes by pressing Right Alt by default, or change this in Controls.
Does FreeLook work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, FreeLook is client-side only, so it works on any server without requiring the mod to be installed there.
Can I look around while using an elytra?
Yes, you can hold the FreeLook key while flying with an elytra to look in any direction without changing your acceleration or flight path.
Why can't I look 360 degrees in first person?
First person view is clamped to about 100 degrees left and right to prevent disorienting or unnatural head rotation; this limit doesn't apply in third person mode.
How do I get the full 360-degree view?
Switch to third person mode (usually F5 by default in Minecraft) and use FreeLook to rotate your view completely around your player.
Does FreeLook affect my movement or combat?
No, FreeLook only changes where you look—your player movement, attacking, and block placement are unaffected by which direction your head is facing.
Will FreeLook cause lag or performance issues?
FreeLook is a lightweight mod that only affects camera control and should have no noticeable impact on performance.
Can I use FreeLook while sprinting?
Yes, you can hold FreeLook and look around in any direction while sprinting forward without changing your movement speed or direction.
