Tracking Animals with Footprint Particles

Follow the Trail

Footprint Particle Mod makes animals leave hoof-like marks on the ground as they walk. The prints only appear on low-hardness blocks such as dirt, sand, and snow, so soft terrain is where tracking works best.

To track an animal, walk around until you spot a fresh trail, then follow the prints in the direction they lead. Baby mobs leave smaller prints, which helps you tell a young animal apart from an adult. Spiders and horses use custom footprint positions, so their tracks look different from ordinary mobs.

You can adjust how long footprints stay visible in the mod's settings. Longer-lasting prints make tracking easier over distance; shorter ones keep the world cleaner. You can also choose which mobs are allowed to leave tracks, so you can disable prints for creatures you don't want to follow.

Waterprints appear after walking in water, giving you another clue when a trail crosses a river or pond.
