Food Effect Tooltips Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn the food tooltips on or off?
The mod works automatically once installed, so tooltips appear whenever you hover a food item. If you want to disable or adjust them, look for the mod's config file or its in-game config screen through your mod menu.
Why don't I see any tooltips when I hover over food?
Make sure you're hovering the actual item and not just its slot, and check that the mod is enabled in your mod list. If another tooltip mod is installed, it may be overriding or hiding the food effect lines.
Does this mod work on servers, or is it client-side only?
It's a client-side information mod, so it works on any server as long as you have it installed locally. You don't need it on the server for the tooltips to show.
How does the mod show chance-based effects like Hunger from rotten flesh?
Instead of listing the effect as guaranteed, it displays the probability alongside the effect so you can judge the risk before eating. The chance is shown as a percentage next to the effect name.
Can I see saturation and hunger values in the tooltip too?
Yes, the tooltip includes hunger restoration and saturation info in addition to potion effects. This lets you compare foods for both buffs and raw hunger value at a glance.
Why does the tooltip show a different duration than what I actually get?
Some foods apply effects with a shorter or longer duration than the base potion, and the tooltip reflects the food's actual values. If it looks wrong, check whether another mod is modifying that food's effects.
Does the mod show effects for modded foods, or only vanilla ones?
It reads the effects data from whatever food item you hover, so modded foods with registered effects will usually display correctly. Foods from mods that handle effects in unusual ways may not show everything.
Will this mod cause lag or lower my FPS?
No, it only builds tooltips when you hover an item, so the performance impact is negligible. It doesn't run anything in the background during normal gameplay.
Can I hide the tooltip for certain foods or effects?
Check the mod's config options for filtering, since some versions let you toggle which lines appear. If there's no filter, you'd need another mod or a config edit to hide specific entries.
Why do golden apples and enchanted golden apples show different effects in the tooltip?
They genuinely grant different effects, and the tooltip reflects each item's own data. This is exactly what makes the tooltip useful for comparing buff foods before you eat them.
