Fluid Horizon Vision Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I turn on the mod after installing it?
The mod runs automatically once installed—no activation needed. Press F8 in-game to open the settings card, or use /drd open in chat to access the configuration menu.
What's the difference between the Quality, Balanced, and Performance presets?
Quality prioritizes visual range over frame rate, Balanced aims for steady performance with reasonable sight distance, and Performance keeps frame rates high by reducing view distance more aggressively. Use /drd preset to switch between them.
Why does my view distance keep jumping up and down?
This is flickering, usually caused by a cooldown timer that's too short. Increase your cooldown value using /drd cooldown to give the mod more time between adjustments, or check that your minFps and maxFps targets aren't too close together.
Can I stop the view distance from getting too small or too large?
Yes—set custom minimum and maximum chunk limits in the settings card under chunk limits, or use the in-game panel to define how far you're willing to see at minimum and maximum.
Does this mod work on multiplayer servers?
Yes, it's entirely client-side and works on any vanilla or modded server without requiring server-side installation or permission.
How do I check what my current view distance and FPS are?
Enable the on-screen HUD overlay using /drd showHud or toggle it in the settings card—it displays your active render distance and frame rate in real time. You can also use /drd status in chat for a detailed performance report.
What do minFps and maxFps actually do?
MinFps is the frame rate threshold below which the mod starts reducing view distance to recover performance; maxFps is the target frame rate above which the mod can increase view distance. Set these based on your desired frame rate range.
Why does the HUD disappear when I press F3?
The mod automatically hides the overlay when you open the F3 debug screen to avoid clutter; it reappears when you close F3.
Does the mod reduce view distance faster than it increases it?
Yes—by design, the mod lowers view distance quickly when performance drops (to help laggy areas recover fast) but raises it more gradually, preventing sudden jumps in render distance.
Can I use this mod with other performance or render distance mods?
The mod is designed to work independently, but conflicts may occur if another mod also automatically adjusts render distance; test compatibility in your specific setup and adjust settings if needed.
