How to Set Up Floodgate So Bedrock Players Can Join Your Java Server
Install Floodgate Alongside Geyser
Floodgate is an add-on for Geyser, not a replacement. You need both installed on the same server for Bedrock clients to connect without a Java account. Drop the Floodgate plugin (or Fabric mod) into your server's plugins/mods folder alongside Geyser, then restart the server. Floodgate reads a config file it generates on first launch — this is where you control the prefix that Bedrock players get on their usernames and whether linking is enabled.
Configure the Connection
Open the Floodgate config and confirm the username-prefix value. This prefix is added to every Bedrock player's name so they don't collide with Java accounts (for example, a dot or asterisk before the name). Leave it as-is unless you have a reason to change it. Make sure your server is in online mode — Floodgate's whole purpose is letting Bedrock accounts authenticate through Geyser while Java players still authenticate normally. If your server is behind a proxy like Velocity or BungeeCord, install Floodgate on both the proxy and the backend servers so the handshake works end to end.
Verify It Works
Join from a Bedrock client using the server's address and Geyser port. You should spawn in without being asked for a Java login. If you get kicked, check that Geyser and Floodgate versions match and that the prefix isn't empty, which can cause name conflicts.
