Floodgate Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I know Floodgate is actually working?
Join your server from a Bedrock client using the same address and port as Java players. If you get in without a Java account and your username shows up with a prefix or asterisk, Floodgate is running correctly.
Do I need Geyser installed too, or does Floodgate work alone?
Floodgate does not let Bedrock clients connect by itself; it only handles authentication and account bridging. You must run Geyser alongside it, since Geyser does the actual protocol translation.
Why do Bedrock players show up with a prefix or asterisk in front of their name?
Floodgate marks Bedrock players so plugins and other players can tell them apart from Java accounts. This prefix is configurable, and you can change or remove it in the Floodgate config if your plugins don't rely on it.
Can Bedrock players join my server if it's in online mode?
Yes, that's the whole point of Floodgate. It lets Bedrock accounts authenticate through Geyser so they can join online-mode Java servers without owning a Java Edition account.
How do I link a Bedrock account to a Java account?
Floodgate supports Global Linking through the Global API and Local Linking on your own server. Global Linking lets a player verify once and keep the link across servers using the API, while Local Linking ties the accounts only to your server.
Why can't my plugins see Bedrock players properly?
Most plugins need to be Floodgate-aware to recognize Bedrock players, since their UUIDs and some data differ from Java accounts. Check whether the plugin has built-in Floodgate support or an addon before assuming something is broken.
Do Bedrock player skins show up for Java players automatically?
Floodgate sends Bedrock skins through so Java clients can see them, but the skin only appears if the Bedrock player has one set and the server is passing skin data correctly. If skins are missing, check that Geyser and Floodgate are both up to date and communicating.
Can I use Floodgate on a proxy like BungeeCord or Velocity?
Yes, Floodgate installs as a plugin on BungeeCord and Velocity as well as Spigot-based servers. On a proxy setup, install it on the proxy and follow the proxy-specific instructions so backend servers receive the right player data.
Will Floodgate slow down my server or cause lag?
Floodgate itself is lightweight and mostly handles authentication and data translation, so it isn't a major performance factor. Lag usually comes from Geyser, world size, or plugins rather than Floodgate.
Why do some Bedrock players get kicked with an authentication or encryption error?
This usually means Floodgate and Geyser aren't configured to match, or the server is in a mode Floodgate can't bridge. Make sure both are installed on the same server or proxy and that online-mode settings line up with your setup.
