How to Link a Bedrock Account to a Java Account with Floodgate
Understand the Two Linking Modes
Floodgate supports Global Linking and Local Linking. Global Linking ties a Bedrock account to a Java account across every server that uses the global API, so the player keeps the same identity everywhere. Local Linking only applies to your own server and is simpler to run if you don't want to depend on an external service. Pick one mode in the Floodgate config before players start linking.
Link From In-Game
Once linking is enabled, a Bedrock player runs the linking command (typically /linkaccount — check your server's command list since plugins can rename it). The plugin gives them a code or a URL to enter. The player then logs into the Java server from a Java client and confirms the link with that code. After confirmation, the Bedrock account inherits the Java account's permissions, rank, and inventory where your permission plugin supports it.
What Changes After Linking
Linked players keep their Java identity when joining from Bedrock, so ranks and whitelist entries carry over. Unlinked Bedrock players still join but appear with the prefix and a fresh profile. If a link fails, make sure the Java account has actually joined the server at least once and that the linking service is reachable. Server owners can also unlink or force-link accounts through the plugin's admin commands when a player loses access to one side.
