Flashback Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start recording a gameplay session?
Open the Flashback recording controls from its keybind or menu and start a new recording before you begin playing. Once active, the mod captures your session in the background so you can stop it whenever you're done.
Where are my recordings saved?
Recordings are stored in the mod's own replay folder inside your Minecraft instance directory. You can open that folder from the mod's interface to find, rename, or back up your sessions.
Why can't I play back a recording I just made?
Playback usually fails if the recording was interrupted or the file is still being written. Stop the recording cleanly first, then load the replay from the playback menu.
Can I fly around freely while watching a replay?
Yes, playback gives you a detached camera you can move independently of your recorded player. Use the camera controls to fly, orbit, and reposition your view at any point in the timeline.
How do I set up a cinematic camera path?
While in playback, place camera keyframes at the positions and angles you want, then let the mod interpolate between them. Adjust the timing of each keyframe to control how fast the camera moves along the path.
How do I export my cinematic as a video file?
Use the export option in the replay or cinematic editor, which renders the shot out frame by frame. Rendering can take a while depending on length and resolution, so let it finish before closing the game.
Does recording affect my game's performance?
Recording adds some overhead because the mod is capturing world and entity data continuously. If you notice stuttering, lower your render distance or recording settings during long sessions.
Can I record on a multiplayer server?
You can record your own view on most servers, but the replay only contains what your client actually saw. Entities or chunks you never loaded won't appear in the playback.
Why do some entities or players look wrong in my replay?
Replays reconstruct the world from recorded data, so anything not captured at the time may be missing or frozen. Make sure you stayed in range of the action while recording so those entities were tracked.
Can I use shaders or other visual mods with Flashback?
Visual mods generally work alongside Flashback since they affect rendering rather than the recorded data. If playback or export looks broken, test without them to isolate the conflict.
