How to Add Your Own Cursors with the Mod's Java API

What the API Is For

The mod exposes a Java API so mod developers and pack authors can register new cursors and assign them to specific contexts programmatically. This is for people writing code, not for players editing settings.

Basic Workflow

1. Add the mod as a dependency in your development environment.

2. Register your cursor(s) during mod initialization using the API's registration entry point.

3. Provide the texture(s) your cursor uses, following the same folder and naming rules the resource-pack system expects.

4. Assign each registered cursor to the context(s) you want — default, hover, click, text, and so on.

5. Build and run to confirm the cursor appears in the in-game list and swaps correctly.

Tips

  • Register during the correct initialization phase; registering too late means the cursor will not appear in the settings list.
  • Keep texture sizes consistent with the mod's existing cursors so scaling looks right.
  • If you also ship a resource pack, the API registration and the pack files must agree on names, or the cursor will show as missing.
  • Test both the default state and each contextual state, since a cursor can look fine as a default but fail to swap on hover if the context assignment is wrong.
