Fishing Ruler Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I see the fishing ruler indicator?
Simply hold a fishing rod and cast your line into water — the indicator will appear above your hotbar showing your current line length. If you don't see it, make sure you've cast the rod and are holding it.
What do the different colors mean?
Each color tells you something different about your fishing situation, like whether the water is deep enough for treasure or when a fish is biting. Use /fishingruler:help in-game to see the full color guide.
How do I know when to reel in?
Watch for the indicator color to change for a brief moment — this flash signals that a fish has bitten your hook, and that's when you should reel in for the best chance of catching something.
Can I use this mod to throw mobs farther?
Yes — the longer your fishing line, the farther you can pull entities when reeling in, so you can use the ruler to maximize your casting distance before flinging something.
Why can't I find treasure even though the indicator says I can?
Make sure you're fishing in the right biome and that the water source is actually large enough; the indicator confirms the water depth is sufficient, but you still need to meet other treasure-fishing requirements.
What happens if I move too far from my bobber?
The indicator shows you the maximum distance you can move away from your bobber before the line breaks — if you exceed that distance, your line will snap and you'll lose your catch.
Does this mod work with other fishing mods?
The mod is designed to work with vanilla fishing mechanics; compatibility with other fishing mods depends on whether they modify the same systems, so test it in your modpack to be sure.
Can I turn off the indicator?
The indicator only appears when you're actively holding and using a fishing rod, so it won't clutter your screen otherwise — check your mod's config file if you want to disable it entirely.
Does the ruler work in all water types?
The indicator works in any water source where you can normally fish, including oceans, rivers, and lakes — it will show different information depending on the water's properties.
How do I remember what each color means?
Type /fishingruler:help while holding a fishing rod to display the color guide in-game, or refer to the 'Understanding the Fishing Ruler Color Codes' guide on the wiki.
