Fishing Without a Bell Using the Config Option

Understanding the Config

Fish On The Line includes a config option called mustHoldBellInOffhand, which defaults to true. When it is true, the mod's bite sound only triggers if you are holding a bell in your offhand. Some players prefer not to carry a bell at all, and the config exists to support that playstyle.

Turning the Bell Requirement Off

1. Open the mod's config file or in-game config screen.

2. Find mustHoldBellInOffhand.

3. Set it to false.

4. Save and, if needed, reload or restart so the change applies.

With the option disabled, the bite sound plays whenever a fish bites, regardless of what is in your offhand. You can then fish with just a rod in your main hand and an empty or unrelated offhand. This is handy if you want your offhand free for torches, shields, or food. Remember that with the option enabled again, you must return a bell to the offhand for the sound to work. If you share a world or server, the config is usually per-instance, so each player may need to set it themselves.
