Fixing Paintings That Won't Render or Show Up

Confirm the Painting Actually Exists

A painting that seems invisible is often a placement problem, not a rendering bug. Walk up to the block face and check whether a painting entity is present by trying to break it. If nothing breaks, the placement failed.

Common Causes and Fixes

1. No solid backing — paintings need a full solid block face behind them. Replace glass, slabs, stairs, or fences with a full block.

2. Not enough space — the game picks a painting size based on available room. Clear a wider and taller area of air in front of the wall so larger variants can spawn.

3. Conflicting entities — item frames, signs, or other paintings occupying the same face can block placement. Remove them first.

4. Chunk rendering — if the painting exists but looks blank, move away and return so the chunk reloads, or toggle your render distance.

When It Is a Mod Issue

If paintings place correctly but flicker or vanish only when many are present, that points to a rendering conflict with another optimization or shader mod. Test with only Fast Paintings enabled to isolate it. The mod does not change painting hitboxes or drops, so any missing-painting behavior is almost always placement or a mod conflict.
