No. Fast Paintings works passively once installed, optimizing painting rendering in the background. There's nothing to toggle on for basic use.

Place a painting item against a wall like you normally would in vanilla — the mod doesn't change the placement process, only how paintings are rendered afterward. The painting will still pick a size based on available wall space.

Yes — that's the main point of the mod. Large numbers of paintings that would normally tank your FPS should render much more cheaply with Fast Paintings installed.

First check that the wall has enough valid space and that you're not placing on an invalid surface. If paintings are invisible or missing entirely, it's usually a mod conflict or a rendering issue rather than Fast Paintings itself — try removing other rendering mods to isolate it.

It's designed to be compatible with shader packs, but some shaders handle paintings in their own way and may override or conflict with the mod's optimizations. If paintings look wrong with shaders on, test with shaders disabled to confirm the cause.

No. Fast Paintings only changes rendering, not the paintings themselves, so existing paintings in your world stay intact. Removing the mod later also won't delete your paintings.
