Create Intentionally Slow Hoppers for Precise Timing

Increase Hopper Cooldown

Sometimes you need hoppers to move slowly for redstone contraptions, item sorting by type, or timed dispensing systems.

Use:

`

/gamerule hopperTickSpeed [number]

`

Set this to a higher value than the default to slow transfers down. This increases the delay between each transfer cycle, giving you finer control over timing-sensitive builds.

Reduce Items Per Transfer

For even more precision, lower the items-per-transfer value:

`

/gamerule hopperItemsPerTransfer [1-64]

`

Setting this to 1 ensures only a single item moves per cycle, which is useful for:

  • Item counters and sorters
  • Controlled feeding systems
  • Redstone pulse detection

Verify Your Settings

After adjusting, observe your hopper behavior in-game. Watch how long it takes items to move from input to output. Redstone engineers often combine slow hoppers with comparators to create reliable detection and sorting systems.
