Fast Better Grass Resource Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

What does Fast Better Grass actually do?
It makes grass, snow-covered grass, dirt paths, podzol, mycelium, warped nylium, and crimson nylium use their top texture on their sides too. It's a resource pack version of OptiFine's Better Grass (fast mode), achieved purely by editing vanilla block models.
How do I enable Fast Better Grass?
Just enable it in your resource pack list like any other pack; there's nothing to configure in-game. If it isn't taking effect, move it above other packs that touch the same block models.
Does Fast Better Grass need OptiFine or a mod loader?
No, it's a pure resource pack and works on vanilla. It also works fine alongside OptiFine or Sodium, but you should turn off OptiFine's own Better Grass setting to avoid double effects.
Why is my grass still showing the normal side texture?
Another resource pack is likely overriding the same block models, so drag Fast Better Grass above it in the pack list. Also make sure the pack is actually enabled and applied, not just downloaded.
Will this work with other resource packs?
Yes, but only if Fast Better Grass loads after packs that modify the same blocks. Packs that replace grass, podzol, or nylium models or textures will conflict, so put Fast Better Grass on top.
Does Fast Better Grass affect performance?
It's lightweight since it only changes block models, not textures or rendering. Most players see no noticeable FPS difference compared to vanilla.
How do dirt paths spread to the block below?
Dirt paths use a special model that extends their texture downward so they look seamless on village roads and slopes. This is a model trick, not an actual block change, so the block underneath is unaffected.
Can I use this with OptiFine's Better Grass at the same time?
You can, but you shouldn't, because both do the same thing and can cause visual glitches or doubled effects. Pick one: either the resource pack or OptiFine's setting.
Does it change how nylium or mycelium look in the Nether?
Yes, warped and crimson nylium will show their top texture on all sides, and mycelium does the same. This applies anywhere those blocks appear, including the Nether and Mushroom Islands.
Why do my snow-covered grass blocks look wrong in snowy biomes?
Snow-covered grass uses the top texture on its sides with this pack, which can look odd if another pack also edits snow or grass models. Make sure Fast Better Grass is above conflicting packs and that no snow overlay pack is overriding it.
